It's written in the Law of Moses that "when a working animal is being used to separate grain, don't keep it from eating the grain." God isn't only talking about animals, he's talking about us, too! Analyzing this, I understand that we are the animals, working to minister to others by showing how the principles of Christ have an unimaginable, immense love overflowing with zeal and mercy. Strong Christians tend to accommodate to others unceasingly, completely giving their lives to further His word. Because of this, it's easy to forget that we must find the time to be filled, too, which is done by kneeling at the foot of the cross in peace and solitude.

Alone time with Jesus Christ is the primary way to hear the whispers He wants to share; they're little treasures that are fundamental in carrying out His work. Serving in ministry, either professionally or voluntarily, can lead to a quick burnout if we work through our own fleshly strength. We're only human; errors, faults, and disgraces are bound to happen, it's inevitable. But, by taking the time to have some "grain for ourselves" and setting aside priceless dates with our King, we will avoid an empty heart of deflated faith. Time with Him is the only way to rejuvenate ourselves to serve others.

Like an athlete who overtrains and neglects to take necessary days of bodily recuperation, Christian servants must refill the tank of faith. Even the Ironman world champion Craig Alexander takes time to drink water and eat power-gels during his long races; he understands that nourishment is crucial. Although the seconds on the clock are precious, he knows that slowing down to eat and drink will actually make him faster in the end of the race by giving him the strength to finish.

Many pastors and church workers fail to recognize that their own personal faith journey is just as important as the faith of the congregation. Without daily devotions, it's easy to yield to human desires and lusts. When we don't spend time alone with our Lord, it's impossible to combat sin. Without God, pampering our sinful desires is inevitable.
