He Alone Satisfies

All too often I hear girls voicing their desires for a "ring by Spring." For those of you unfamiliar with the term, it refers to the deep longing for an engagement by college graduation. As a senior in college, I'm surrounded by girls scrambling to figure out where they'll live and work and who they'll marry. With May swiftly approaching, the fear of a disappointing future becomes very real.
God shares He'll meet all our needs (Phil 4:19). Therefore, my peers and I have nothing to fear. Waiting times are sweet times, especially in terms of a future partner. Many girls on campus glamorize marriage, holding it on a pedestal representing everlasting happiness. Although a Godly partner can certainly sweeten one's life, it will not meet every desire.
Once Adam placed Eve's importance higher than God's, both of them fell and sin initially entered the world. Idolizing a husband or wife, even before we meet them, can be disastrous. Without finding total satisfaction in Jesus, marriages are bound to crumble. Expecting an imperfect person to heal your heart is placing far too heavy a burden on them.
There's nothing inherently wrong with a "ring by Spring" as long as both partners keep their eyes on the Author and Finisher of their faith, Jesus Christ. He's the ultimate bridegroom, fully able to "grant our requests," (Matthew 8:13) "bless us," (Matthew 10:13) and "save us" (John 10:9) to no end.
