Mr. & Mrs. Kennedy ☄
24 April, 2015

Have I ever told you guys my dream is to become a writer? I mean, obviously I write these blogs, but I mean a real, full-time, published novelist. I want to do my part to uplift women, to write books encouraging them to find their worth in Christ.
That being said, I am a huge bookworm. It hit me about two years ago, and I've been reading ever since! Funny, too, because back in AP high school English class I was lucky if I read the Sparknotes before tests. Lol, real talk.
I'm currently reading an AMAZING book called Your Beautiful Heart . It's written by a young woman a few years older than me named Lauren Scruggs. She was a fashion journalist, reporting from Milan, Paris, and New York fashion weeks. She had it all: fame, looks, and a future. Until one day, she was stepping out of a small plane and was hit by the propellor, slicing off half of her arm and an eye. Sounds super scary and intense, I know! I'm sure it was awful. BUT, her book shines light on how she STILL KNOWS she's beautiful because she's a daughter of Christ.
She now has a prosthetic arm (as shown above) and a fake eye, but she still obviously looks great. She met her husband, Jason Kennedy, sharing her story on the set of E! News, (where he's a reporter) and he knew she was the one for him within seconds. The duo share a huge love for God and for helping others. Their love story really can't be beat.
In the foreward of the book, Jason writes:
"Even from across the studio, I noticed her smile. It was one of those smiles that, even on your worst day, would make you feel better. After such a terrible accident, Lauren could have chosen not to smile and to view the world with bitterness and pain. And yet she was smiling. I wanted to get to know the woman behind that smile."
How cool. In her book, she shares that for a long time after the accident, she didn't think anyone would ever find her beautiful. God writes some pretty amazing love stories, doesn't He?
The big takeaway: no matter how badly you feel about your exterior appearance, you are a BEAUTY in the eyes of Jesus.
Yeah, yeah, you probably hear that all the time. "Beauty is inside, not outside." But what about those magazines telling us to Dress to Impress , Contour Cheekbones like the Kardashians , or Lose Weight with these 5 Foods?
Ditch the magazines, honey. I've helped out at photoshoots and parties for 2 major magazines, Malibu Magazine and Los Angeles Magazine , and the writers are no different than you and me: making it up as they go along.
Give the Bible a try. But, before you do, you should know, it doesn't say much of anything about people's appearances! While our society is obsessed (with a capital O!) with how people look, the Bible didn't even find it necessary to mention one detail!
Let's take Jesus, for example. He's the most important man who ever lived, and yet this is ALL the Bible says about His looks:
There was nothing beautiful or majestic about His appearance, nothing to attract us to Him. We turned our back on Him and turned the other way. (Isaiah)
But dude, how can I get a visual without any deets? Was he tall? Did he have freckles? Did he have a man-bun? (lol, too far, although I'm sure he could've rocked it better than anyone)
The only other details we're given about the appearance of people are as follows: Esau was hairy, Jacob wasn't. Leah had dull eyes, her sissy Rachel didn't. Saul was tall. David was handsome. Eglon was overweight. Zacchaeus was short.
The Bible is jam-packed with heroes and villians. The only people who call the Bible boring are those who have never read it. But what story is complete without accurate detail on the characters' looks? What's the fun in that?
The fun in that, beloved, is that God can and will use ANYBODY, no matter how tall or short. He doesn't care if you have perfectly shaped eyebrows or have landed under 120 on the scale. He does care, however, if you have a heart that desires His help.
God goes where He's wanted. Those who call upon Him will be made new. The Bible says to "knock, and the door will be opened." That's pretty sweet, right? Partying with Jesus?
Anywho, be encouraged by the story of Lauren Scruggs (recently Kennedy!). She is now more beautiful than she's ever been - she's found her worth in Christ. That's beauty at its finest.
