Normal One Day, Queen the Next ♚

God looked far and wide for a suitable woman to bear His one and only Son, keeping His eyes peeled for a willing servant. The Lord examined the heart of every woman on Earth, searching for the ideal mother of His Son. He looked for a humble, generous, meek, lowly, Holy woman that truly loved Him. He bypassed the wives of rulers, church leaders, and brave warriors.
Having His choice among the most beautiful, rich, talented, elegant women in eternity, He chose to overlook them all. He was searching for someone different; someone He could use as an empty vessel to pour His mercy into; Someone He could bless abundantly with a willing heart and a sound mind. Searching, the Lord of all the Earth finally selected His perfect gem. She was no princess; instead, a young, poor virgin engaged to a modest carpenter.
The Lord sent His personal messenger angel, Gabriel, to tell her of the great and marvelous plans He had for her. Gabriel shared how "favored she was in the eyes of the Lord." He explained how her son, to be named Jesus, would be given the highest throne in all of Heaven with a kingdom that would never, ever end.
Mary was bewildered by the angel, but she listened carefully to his words, pondering them in her heart. After she pinched herself a few times and lost the initial first-time-ever-seeing-an-angel jitters, she accepted the prophecy, answering "I am the Lord's servant, so I know your words will be fulfilled."
The Lord knew exactly what He was doing when He chose an average, ordinary woman. There was nothing different about her compared to other women of her time. Nothing, that is, except for her heart. The Lord knows those who belong to Him, (2 Timothy 2:19) and He blessed Mary because of her adoration of Him. Because she held onto no idols except the Lord, she was usable.
She was a ready and willing soldier waiting for anything He'd ask of her. Because of her servant heart, she is called "blessed throughout all the generations," (Luke 1:48) and she's in Heaven with her Son right this second!
Throughout scripture, God chooses simple, shy, and ordinary people to be leaders in His church. He casts a shadow over the proud and offers a furnished throne-room in Heaven to those you'd least expect.
Moses was hesitant to be a tool for the Lord. "Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent... for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue... why would pharaoh listen to me?" (Exodus 6:30) He figured the Lord could find someone better suited for the job, not finding himself worthy of a great calling.
Jeremiah, a renowned prophet, had similar resistance, "Oh, Lord GOD, I really do not know how to speak well enough for that, for I am too young." (Jeremiah 1:6) He felt his youth disqualified him from being used as an instrument for His Lord.
Likewise, the prophet Isaiah understood his unworthy nature. "I am undone, for I am a sinful man with filthy lips, yet I have seen the King" (Isaiah 6:5). Isaiah didn't feel fit to be in the presence of the ultimate Creator.
Mary is an ordinary woman, yet the Lord respected her peaceful, modest lifestyle and heart that honored Him. He chose her to carry out His incredible plans, and she did everything on her part to follow His will. The Lord can choose anybody, just like He selected Moses, Jeremiah, and Isaiah.
Is your heart ready and willing to bow down to the plans He has for you? Will you accept His offer to be His warrior, just like the others?
Jesus, I know there is nothing good in me. I know I pale in comparison to many others, yet I boldly ask You to allow me into Your family. I'd rather be a doormat in Your kingdom than royalty elsewhere. I lay aside my pride to walk in Your perfect will for my life, whatever it may entail. I pray You'll see me as "favored," just like You saw Mary. Please protect me, hold me, love me, and send me, because I'll go.
