& the livin's easyyy ☮
In my book, it's officially summer. High 70ºs, sunny skies, not a cloud in sight... Today was, like, the bomb. I woke up and made a yummy egg scramble, toast, and smoothie for my brother and me, then hopped on my bike & rode for a few hours, jamming to some poppy Pandora along the way. I returned in time to plant flowers with mom & pops and grill some summer staples.
On my ride today, I noticed a sign for an insurance agent with "Psalm 127:1" at the very bottom. I wanted to look it up once I got home, so I was reciting it to myself over and over. Once home, I typed the verse into my Bible app:
Unless the Lord builds a house,
the work of the builders is wasted.
Unless the Lord protects a city,
guarding it with sentries will do no good.Psalm 127:1 (NLT)
How true is that? It got me to thinking, if I don't allow GOD to build a strong foundation in my life, how can I expect to live out the destiny He has for me? The way I see it, we all have a destiny. It comes down to 2 possible paths: the destiny WE choose for ourselves, through our own little human minds and desires, or HIS destiny, a path designed by the creator of the world. So often, I try to "build my own foundation," so to speak, hanging out with the wrong types of guys, focusing more on my appearance than on helping others, not spending time with those who truly matter to me (God included), etc.
Chatting with a friend of mine last Thursday, we talked about where we're currently at in life. We're both young, single, and trusting God to take care of our futures. We talked about how we look at others, whom are farther along in life (married, solid careers, etc) and can be tempted by trying to speed up our OWN timelines by making decisions we know God's not feelin.
My advice, courtesy of that man's insurance sign: let God build your life's foundation. You'll be in His perfect path, serving as a ready and willing vessel to be used however He see's fit. There's nothing (seriously, nothing) more calming than knowing you're exactly where God wants you.
Are you letting Him build your foundation on solid rock? Or are you attempting to build your own on sand? Are you settling for the wrong guy? Are you ignoring your family? Are you obsessive over your appearance? Are you living how you know you shouldn't?
When storms come, will your "house" collapse? With God as your supreme Builder, no tornado, hurricane, or tsunami will be able to touch you. Why? Because He's watching over you, and He alone can build your life's foundation on solid rock.
This summer, make it a point to start building your foundation with The One greater than you. You'll be glad you did.
Without Christ, you'll be blown away like a hurricane. 0_0
