Hush, Doll

How many people travel to the Grand Canyon, stay for a half hour to use their new selfie stick, hit the gift shop for their friends, and leave thinking they've experienced all they could?
Let's compare that to people who get to the canyon early in the morning and stay all day, finding a private spot far from the crowds. They use their binoculars, pack a breakfast, lunch, and dinner, write in a journal, take zoomed in photos of the birds, sketch charcoal drawings of the lake, and take in everything they can.
That's the type of person who goes back year after year, most likely to sit in that same private spot on their own. Yet, each year, they see a new show.
Let's compare this to our Bible reading. Lots of people attend church every so often and hear a few verses quoted by the pastor, thinking they're experiencing everything they can. Or, they may even own a Bible and flip through it on occasion, reading a random chapter and calling it a day.
That's my problem. I'm not hungering for the Word like I need to. I'm not soaking up everything I can, like those who travel to the canyon, sit in a private spot, and enjoy every little detail.
I admire those who read through the whole Bible every single year. The cool part is, even though it's the same stories, they experience a different show. They're in a different season of their lives each year, allowing the stories to help them in unique area's.
Let's not read our Bible like those cliché tourists who snap a selfie, buy a fridge magnet, and head home. Let's find a private spot and breathe in God's word. We just might find ourselves coming back for more year after year after year.... and it'll only get better.
